Group of employees of the Public Broadcaster will issue a statement on December 23 in front of the Public Broadcaster building

On December 23, at 13:00, in front of the Public Broadcaster building, group of employees will hold a press conference.

According to the employees, after the “Georgian Dream” party made the decision to suspend negotiations with the European Union until 2028, some employees “openly call on and request the channel’s management to respond to society’s demand and open the daily television airtime for public-political discussion during this crucial and critical time for the country.”

In the released preliminary statement, we also read:

“Current events obligate us to dedicate television airtime specifically to dialogue on socio-political issues and not to films that have no connection to today’s reality.

We were and still are ready to work proactively with management to organize the content and technical aspects of these television formats and broadcasts.

We know that if there is willingness, the Public Broadcaster has the technical means to ensure this.

Unfortunately, our numerous public appeals and official letters have not received a professional and argumentative response from management. Even after the verbal rejection of the request for live television broadcast, we received an unclear response to our official letter.

We, dozens of Public Broadcaster employees, understand our role and professional obligation in general and especially during this difficult time for the country. We believe that impartial and comprehensive coverage and analysis of the process is our duty as Public Broadcaster employees.

We believe that we have accountability to the public, that each of our next steps or plans in this process should be public.”
