18 Judges of Georgia: We Condemn Violence, We Distance Ourselves from Any Decision that Contradicts Article 78 of the Constitution

On November 29, 18 judges published a joint statement opposing “Georgian Dream’s” decision to suspend European integration and condemning violence.

See the statement unchanged:

“We, the judges of Georgia, believe that it is our constitutional duty today to clearly and unambiguously state our position through the lens of the rule of law, to protect human rights and ensure the country’s European future.
Within the bounds of professional ethics, we maintain political neutrality regarding the ongoing political processes in the country, while condemning violence and distancing ourselves from any decision and step that contradicts the requirements of Article 78 of the Constitution of Georgia.

We remain faithful to the judge’s oath taken before God and the nation and believe that there is no alternative to Georgia’s European integration.

Georgia’s place is where human dignity, freedom, and peace are the most important values! Therefore, Georgia’s place is in Europe!”
