On October 22, the winners of the 2024 award in the nomination “The Right to Peaceful Protest and Its Coverage” will be announced. By decision of civil society and media organizations, journalists from Radio Liberty, Publika, OC Media, Studio Monitor, and Batumelebi have been nominated for the award. The press release is distributed by the Tbilisi Human Rights House.
The Tbilisi Human Rights House’s “Lekso – Award for Human Rights Defender Media Professionals” was established on July 5, 2021, following violence against journalists and the death of TV Pirveli cameraman Lekso Lashkarava. The award aims to support, maintain, and further develop human rights media in Georgia. This year’s award will be dedicated to media professionals who, throughout their work, cover protests in various forms.
Event attendees will be greeted with welcoming speeches by:
• Pert Kubernat, Ambassador of the Czech Republic to Georgia
• Rebecca Lee, Deputy Head of Mission/Second Secretary of the Royal Norwegian Embassy
• Lela Tsiskarishvili, Chairperson of the Board of Tbilisi Human Rights House
Mary Lawlor, UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights defenders, will address the attendees via video message.
