“Last year, during the protests, media representatives became targets of physical and verbal violence. The pressure and aggression from law enforcement, including the use of pepper spray and water cannons, clearly indicates the systemic problems concerning the safety of journalistic activities. The Special Investigative Service immediately launched an investigation, however, the perpetrators have not yet been identified and the issue of appropriate accountability remains unclear,” states the Media Ombudsman’s press release.
According to information disseminated by the organization, with their legal support, 18 affected journalists and camera operators have filed a lawsuit in the Tbilisi City Court. The organization is also publishing a detailed report on the rights’ situation of journalists and camera operators.
